i love a good long weekend.  breakfast out.  reading on the couch.  general puttering.  i’ve needed a good putter.  feel like i’ve been all go-go for the holidays.

these shots of dogs were taken over the weekend.  i wish i could snap a pic of every dog i see… they’re everywhere in seattle.  one of my favourite things.  the last is, of course, my own little luv…

posting might be light this week.  i’m headed out of town.  perhaps i’ll update while away, we’ll see how tech savvy i get out on the road.

in the meantime, i’ve scheduled a couple posts about the aquarium to tide you over.  haven’t been there in ages.  it’s so nice now.  and enormous.  plus octopus week is coming.  cool.  i’m totally going back for octopus week.  even if it means i have to throw a few elbows to get some decent pics of the cephalopods.  the kids were DEEP in that area.

dog friend – american bulldog – downtown seattle

From needle+thread

it’s been a while since i’ve posted a four legged friend.  this guy was such a tank, and i loved how snowy white he was.

my husband and i spent part of today wandering downtown.  what a treat.  he said he hadn’t been to the market since we were married, i couldn’t believe that- 3 years?!  i didn’t get a lot of pictures, (some days it’s just like that) but it was nice to stroll the city with my love.

matching set – christopher + tifan – downtown seattle

the dogs are pretty cute too.

a new friend – birdie

From needle+thread

you may remember that we were pretty broken hearted when our friend mura passed away.  and slowly, we’ve mended, remembered, and laughed about the crazy quirks of our old pet.  she even has a small memorial at our family wall… but we were ready to find another pet, love a new dog, and fill the corners of our house with hair, dog toys and paraphenalia that denotes… a dog lives here (bones squirreled away in our living room!).

this is birdie.  a friend of a friend let us know that a couple we knew were looking to find her a new home.  through no fault of her sweet temperament… birdie has come to be with us.  in the 24 hours that she’s been in our home, we’ve seen what we’re in for, and it’s already making us laugh, filled us with disbelief and brought that feeling of… yes.  this is just right.  we’re so excited to have her, the coming holidays are going to be that much more fun with a dog to share.  and although it’s not all rainbows and puppies (ha!) pet ownership brings that little bit of something we’ve been missing since mura left…

bradley was one of a hand-full of men (all well dressed) at the mario’s event.  i liked the subdued overcoat/jean/boot, and then that purple scarf!  sadie was so camera ready…

we had such a pretty halloween this year.  wasn’t this a beautiful fall weekend…? i had the remnants of a cold, but didn’t let that stop me from getting out to ballard to see the trick or treaters with my friends and their ‘little cat’.  if you don’t have kids, it’s almost cute overload.  i especially loved the parents who were: the beekeepers to their bees, the chef to their cupcake, the chicken to their chick, and the mexican wrestler to their spider man.  participation and imagination were awesome.

want to see more of the halloween pics from ballard?  head over to our P-I site, and see more of the ballard halloween goodness.

dog day friday – cody – REI HQ

From needle+thread

From needle+thread

when items are designed, they have to be fit on a body. even if that body is canine. meet cody, who came into the office to try this pack on. i loved cody’s personality, and as always with dogs… the sweet face. my husband and i have spent a little time looking for a new dog… we need to get on it. happy friday!

muppet – furry friend – greenlake

From needle+thread

i’ve had this sitting in my dog folder for a while… every time i look at it, i laugh a little. what a little muppet this is! like a cross between an ewok and tribble.

on a side note – dogsitting is over

From needle+thread

today, much in the way my dog nephew william appeared… i came home from work and he was gone. in his place was an overly large tin of ghirardelli and a sweet card. i’m glad s. and p. had fun, and can’t wait to catch up and hear about the weekend away…

dog day friday – sanya – REI HQ- Kent

From needle+thread

i work for a pretty amazing company. i was stunned to come across the dog daycare/park. bring your dog to work, and they have a place to hang out, and run around. oh seattle… you’re a pretty cool place (kent’s not bad either).

on a side note – dogsitting

From needle+thread

tonight when i got home… what greeted me, but the sweetest puppy face and lots of barking at the tv! william is my dog nephew (in no uncertain terms) and i hope that s. and p. have a fantabulous time in s.f. when you get home, your dog will be totally spoiled, and he’ll be all caught up on his oprah/fringe/project runway… just ask him what happened, he’ll fill you in…

dog day friday – downtown seattle

From needle+thread

today i spent the morning downtown, taking some pictures and the afternoon with work, researching color trends. met some interesting people, and then walked the lake with blogger marissa of pumpkin&pomegranite. looking forward to the weekend… this little dog was so cute, even the bike messengers were charmed…

size does matter.

From needle+thread

i’m figuring out picture layout and size… the point of taking pictures of people wearing cool things, is for you to see it. i’ve thought for too long that the pictures were too small, but i’m a wuss when it comes to editing html (i have a husband who takes care of those things). since he’s occupied, i’ve resorted to trial and error. any feedback is welcome…

i do love taking pictures…

From needle+thread

of people and their dogs… i also miss my dog friend terribly. i’m hoping a new friend can be found for us…

my favourite model

i wasn’t going to make anything about this blog very personal… but it’s hard in the day to day to not let it seep in…

this past weekend my much beloved pet passed away.  i never tired of turning my camera her way and snapping a few photos.  when she was young, as soon as i put the camera in front of my face, she’d charge me.  she didn’t like it when i pointed anything her way, and with a camera, you had to be quick (i have many a blurry photo of a kujo looking dog coming towards the camera).  as she got older, it was still hard to make her sit still… you’d have to catch her in those rare moments when she was completely relaxed (see: in the sun, or asleep) or completely bored with whatever the humans were doing (see: above).

it’s amazing all the little things a pet brings to your life.  it’s funny to think they adapt to our schedules, when in fact, it’s us to theirs.  i miss our morning shadowing… her following me to the coffee pot (to see if i also reach for a cookie) then into the bedroom to retrieve her bed (how many times a day did we move that bed !) then i’d follow her to her bed, to her bowl… to make sure she had what she needed as she settled in.

through the deaths i’ve already experienced… she was there with me to help me get through them.  you have to get out of bed to let her out, while out, she needed to run.  and really, you couldn’t help but smile to think… it just goes on for them.  they don’t care that you’re sad, or hurt, or flailing… they love you.  unconditionally.  to get through her death with empty space beside me… with no lolling tongue giving my cheek a lick… it’s truly one of the hardest things i’ve experienced.  i should be so lucky that the worst i’ve had so far is a dying pet.  it’s hard to see the silver lining.  the lining which of course is 13 years with a dog who technically had none.  sharing all that time with an animal who loved, gave, ran and retrieved.  made us laugh on many occasions; so many odd quirks and a mind that was quick.  she will be missed.  and loved… forever.
