rainy saturday – new cards – moo

From needle+thread

i remember the first person who handed me a moo card. it was at ballard artwalk about 3 years ago… and when i turned over this wee rectangle, there on the back, was his art. i loved it. i kept it. i still have it. let’s not digress into my hoarding… moo cards. since then, countless people have handed over these little physical representations of themselves, and i have to say, they give new meaning to the somewhat staid idea of ‘business card’. i’ve never personally liked having business cards, but when these showed up, with all (ok, not quite all) my favourite pictures on the back… i kind of squealed. want one?

featured – seattle magazine – nordstrom show

From needle+thread

the quote from kate calamusa-

On Wednesday evening, Nordstrom presented their always-flawless Fall Fashion Show, but almost as impressive as the runway looks were the fashions sported in the crowd. Local fashion blogger (and Seattlemag fave) Kam Martin captures both this week on her blog needle+thread.

neiman marcus – opening gala – bellevue

From needle+thread

for those of you not on twitter, or facebook, following ANY seattle publications or living under a non-materialistic rock… there’s a new shopping area in bellevue. it’s called ‘the bravern’. it is VERY posh, and i can see myself making the pilgrimage over the water maybe twice a year to ohhh and ahhh over all the pretty things that they have to offer, having lunch with a girlfriend or visiting relative, and maybe indulging in some fashion fantasy where i pluck up the nerve and buy something- i’m picturing a handbag (i HAVE looked everywhere for a new fall handbag) or some very coveted shoes… anyway, kindness was bestowed upon me by darrah- she invited me along for the press tour, and then the opening neiman’s gala. wow, wow, and wow. if you thought nordstrom designer preview was fancy… i could have done a week’s worth of posts just about the CARS (i should have, love me some top gear). anyway, check back to see who i caught, and the style they rocked at this not to be missed event… there was some amazing fashion…

needle buzz – value village + contest + fall shopping

From needle+thread

this blog is about pictures of you. that being said, you may remember the contest was going to involve a friend. there were some timing issues, and so, in the vein of keeping the contest timely, i’ve been dashing about trying to get it together myself. i shop at value village pretty frequently (with said friend, in fact)… and have picked up bits here and there for fall. since today was as un-fall like as it gets (88 when this was taken) i’d had a lovely argyle, full length skirt planned, that no amount of free stuff could entice me to put on. so i bolted in and found this denim number. then the focus wasn’t working (cause the subject wasn’t in front of the camera) and i had to bug some passer-by (big thanks to tyler) to take this picture. sorry it’s me, i won’t make a habit of it…

but…now the contest can begin ! just a reminder- these are how to qualify for one of the TWO $50 value village gift certs (one will be chose by a drawing, one will be chosen based on creativity)-

1. post a comment
2. suggest a title for the above picture
3. best critique of how this outfit completely relates to a. fall b. shape c. seattle d. color or e. reverse osmosis
4. best plea for why you deserve the gift cert.
5. guess at which V.V. this was taken
6. proof of shameless promotion of needle+thread (pictures, glitter posters, links, free converse ad space)

and just to show you how valuable those gift cards are… my outfit, the entire thing (boots-$10, skirt $5, button down $4, jacket/hoodie $5, tank $4, belt $5) was $38.

needle buzz – value village + contest

From needle+thread

recently i received a letter from value village’s pr because i’m ‘one of seattle’s most influential fashion blogs’. i wasn’t aware this title was being given out, but i’m totally excited that i made the cut, because… they want me to do a giveaway! so… here’s the deal… i’m going to put together a $50 outfit for fall, from value village, with a friend. i will take a picture of said friend, in said outfit, and post within the next week.

these are the circumstances which could garner your receipt of ONE of these TWO $50 G.C.
1- best comment
2- best title for aforementioned picture
3- best critique of how this outfit completely relates to a.fall b.shape c.seattle d.color or e.reverse osmosis
4. best plea for why you deserve the gift cert.
5. first person to guess at which V.V. the picture is taken
6. proof of shameless promotion of needle+thread (always accepted in all forms)

and to make sure all proceedings are completely impartial, all submissions will be judged by my husband. because although he has constant contact with the internet, he does not: facebook, twitter, blog, dissect fashion or know fall is coming, or care. but he is the funniest person i know, and he’s cute.

is that fun ? i think it is. in fact, i quite like it.

needle+thread – fashion blitz – still dottie

From needle+thread

we like connecting to what people want…  still dottie really liked our contribution to the seattle street scene documentation.  we liked pike/pine too, but we’re happy to give our $.02 too.  thanks still dottie for the kind words!

kreativ blog award – needle+thread

very cool… a mention from agent noir of ‘a girl’s guide to seattle‘, a very heartfelt thanks for her award. apparently this involves some sort of response, and so… here we are- according to the award requirements, you give 7 facts about yourself, and pass awards to 7 fellow bloggers…can do !

my seven things-
1. i take all coffee and tea sweetened beyond recognition.
2. i have a drawer for vintage ‘slips’.
3. zesty lemon, fat-free sorbet is a new obsession.
4. i’ve kept clothes from my childhood.
5. i am friends with my kindergarten teacher on facebook.
6. i’ve never met a cheese i didn’t like.
7. my husband is the funniest person i know (hottest too).

the bloggers who receive the award-
1. darrah’s dresser – having been the first local style blogger i met in person, i follow darrah’s blog like we’re old friends, even though technically, we only met a month ago.
2. the clothes horse – rebecca was the second blogger i met in person, and her style, photography and general musings are not to be missed.
3. what’s your tale nightengale?- now we move on to people i look forward to coming across… eunice does a great job of balancing style, family and work… love that.
4. wear what when - seattle fashion reporting with a little bit of humor, wit and intellect. love her.
5. young + restless – karen does an amazing job finding new tidbits in the seattle scene. it doesn’t hurt that she featured needle+thread and it’s their number one blog post !

the bigger picture – seattle p-i blog launches

i sometimes feel like this blog is quick and dirty.  i’m in, i get a picture, i’m out.  i’ve met a lot of really great people.  I’ve bugged a lot of really great people.  i’ve met people i want to grill about their fashion, but that isn’t what’s here… and so… i’ve created a second space.  something a little more in depth.  it’s been difficult to get people to commit to a little more time, i little more hassle, a little more of me in your face with a camera just a little bit longer, but i’m very pleased with the result.  thank you to tara at hazel salon (and also maria) for helping me get it going… stay tuned for a very lovely 3rd who will soon be joining their ranks.  i hope to post there weekly with a more in depth style bio.  fun !
