10 things to get to know the lady teaching summer art classes

Updated: Jul 16

it feels indulgent to talk unfettered about oneself on the internet. so! i gave myself a limit. here are 10 things about me that will illustrate my commitment to providing quality art instruction to your children this summer. yikes. that sentence is scary. how about... get to know me in 10 easy steps.

  1. i have an art degree (associates in fashion design from the art institute - seattle)

  2. i made my living for over a decade designing clothing (nordstrom, rei, eddie bauer)

  3. i was a mentor (at a non-profit) to high school students for over 4 years. i taught them the design process; sewing, pattern making, and literally anything they asked me to teach them. 18th century dressmaking? yes. screen printing? yes. upcylcing thrift finds? yes.

  4. i taught elementary aged kids sewing. hand sewing, machine sewing... they decided the path. it was my most enjoyed job, and i was building a pitch to take my program wider when covid happened.

  5. every day i find some way to make. it's usually done with very little thought or plan. i have a large basement studio, a table of started projects that i can pick back up, illustrator is always open on my computer, and i have what feels like... every craft supply there is. blessing and curse.

  6. i have two children. they are 13 and, soon to be, 11.

  7. i love baking, and make cookies (or some baked treat) at least once a week.

  8. i have convinced my husband that lasers, cnc and 3D printers are necessary to my happiness. i'm also currently trying to work letterpress into that mix, but he's resistant.

  9. most days i find something new to be obsessed with. things that have remained constant obsessions since i was very small- books, dogs and hand sewing.

  10. my mom registered me for summer art camps as a kid, and i still think about what i learned in those classes. i'm so excited to offer what i feel is interesting, relevant content, but i'm also completely ready to see what kids get excited about, and follow their interest and curiosity.

happy to answer any questions, or send out my CV. i have a background check on file with the seattle school district, my drivers license and insurance are up to date, and i belong to most museums and libraries seattle has to offer. hoping to make some amazing memories of creating this summer. if you want your kids to join us, register here. happy summer! xo- k.
